A Center for New Approaches to Human Development and Community The East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy is an international training and research center for new approaches to human development and community building. Since the mid-1970s, we have worked to change psychology from a diagnostic, evaluative (and often stigmatizing) social science into a positive and creative force for the emotional, social and cultural development of all people and their communities. Our particular approach, social therapy, is practiced at ten therapy centers in the US (click here: www.socialtherapygroup.com). Hundreds of counselors, community developers, therapists, psychologists, social workers, teachers and physicians have revitalized their practices through training in the Institute’s social therapeutic approach. Thousands more have benefited from our international conferences, collaborative projects, educational programs, seminars, and publications. Headquartered in New York City – at the heart of a fast-growing development community – the Institute also has an affiliate training center in San Francisco. Welcome to our site!
