Vygotsky at Work and Play in Educational,
Therapeutic and Organizational Settings
The East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy and the Research Center at the All Stars Project, Inc sponsored this two-day experiential conference on May 14 and 15.
When "Mind in Society," a short collection of Lev Vygotsky's writings, was published in 1978, it was a rare psychologist or educator who had heard of Vygotsky, let alone read his work. Today, Vygotsky is nearly a household word, at least among those involved in teacher training or developmental and educational psychology. Moreover, Vygotsky's work figures prominently in a growing number of other fields, including cognitive science, organization and management, curriculum and teaching, literacy, writing and rhetoric, information technology and design, geography, architecture, and museum design and education.
This conference was attended by students, professors and practitioners who wanted to learn from our successful and sustained Vygotsky-influenced therapeutic, educational and cultural projects and from colleagues in other settings whose research and educational practices are also designed to realize Vygotsky's transformational potential.
