Psych Out 2003 Awardees We're pleased to announce this year's awardees: Olga Acosta, Ph.D. is a nationally recognized advocate for the creation of positive and effective mental health programs for children. As the clinical administrator for the Department of Mental Health in Washington, DC, she is responsible for the expansion of school mental health programs in 34 public charter schools. Lin Ching Hsia, Ed.D. is an educator / activist from Taipei, Taiwan. She is president of the Lu-De Community College and coordinator of its innovative women's education program. She is also a professor of psychology at Fu-Jen Catholic University. As a long-time community organizer, she is a founder and leader of many organizations for the disenfranchised and disempowered. Dr. Hsia was the Institute's first Fulbright Scholar in 2002. Debra Pearl, C.S.W. is the director of the Long Island Center for Social Therapy and a social therapist for 25 years. The Institute’s first director, Debra has trained hundreds ofhelping professionals in social therapy. She serves on the boards of the Association for the Advancement of Group Work in Social Work and the Nassau County chapter of the Society for Clinical Social Workers. Lois Shawver, Ph.D., a distinguished researcher and clinical psychologist from the San Francisco Bay area, is an international spokesperson for postmodern approaches to psychology. Over the last decade, she has hosted “Postmodern Therapies,” a lively online community of therapists and academics who share her unflagging interest and enthusiasm for postmodern philosophers and psychologists. Gloria Strickland, M.Ed. is a distinguished educator and founding director of the New Jersey All Stars. Before that, she served as director of the Somerset Community Action Program in New Jersey, and received national recognition for her success in developing a model Head Start program and innovative community practices. A social therapist for 19 years, Gloria headed the Harlem Center for Social Therapy and is now on the training faculty of the Institute. Emily Forman (patient recipient) is a union electrician in New York City. Tim Neiman (patient recipient) is the founder and president of Tim Neiman Interiors, a New York based design firm.
